A Very Special Fundraising Event...
2pm Sunday July 24, 2016
St Patricks School Hall,
Corner of Drynan St and Prospect Rd,
Summer Hill
Dear friends,
On Sunday July 24, I will be hosting a fundraising concert at St Patrick’s School Hall in Summer Hill, NSW in support of local breast cancer survivors and Breast Cancer Network Australia. Entry is by donation, and all proceeds will be going to the “Breast Cancer Network Australia”.
My lovely mum, Colleen Grennan, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 33, and continued her work as a musician and fundraiser/volunteer for the QLD Breast Cancer Support Service, until she passed away in 1991. I’m delighted to include in this concert some works which I was very fortunate to have played with her when I was young. The prevalence of the BRCA1 gene mutation in our family, has motivated me to support this great cause, and it is a great privilege to use my love of music as a way of bringing support for those affected, and awareness to our local community.
We will be presenting an engaging and entertaining concert program which features a mix of classical and contemporary music from such composers as Arvo Pärt, Ian Clarke, Gary Schocker, Georges Enesco, Claude Bolling, and I am delighted to include a special performance of a work by local composer Louise Welsh, who will be in attendance on the day.
Performing on the day are Kellie Grennan (flute), Julia Brimo (piano), Simon Hilberding (trumpet), Shane Koek (bass), Jon Collins (drums).
We have chosen short works that we hope are able to be enjoyed by all ages, and kids are more than welcome to attend the concert. Please come along if you are in the area...it will be a great afternoon of entertainment, and a chance to support this wonderful cause.
